Killerwat sound system has been performing at Carnival for more than 40 years. Owned by George Shaw, Killerwatt is a family run sound system that plays right across the board... Reggae, soul, calypso, salsa, and all of today's hits, focusing solely on providing a good musical mix for the collective whenever and wherever they play.
Killerwatt performed at their first carnival in 1982 but surprisingly music is not their preferred vocation. In the 1990's they started a new Caribbean food catering business in London's Streatham High Street and since then the business has grown from strength to strength. They also provide service at a number of festivals and live events including the Lord Mayors Show. At Carnival their impressive 'PoppaShaw' pop-up stall has become one of the biggest features at the site and supplies tasty food for carnival revellers. Here you can get everything from a full english breakfast to the tradition rice & peas with curried goat or jerk chicken. Asides from running the sound system, this keeps 3 generations of the family real busy.
George (aka DJ PoppaShaw) is also a talented remixer/producer who supplies many of the top London underground djs with exclusive remixes. He says that:
"Our core values have remained constant as the world changes. We play the music for the people. What they want to hear. They are our number one priority and we want to make certain that we are always doing our part to ensure that Notting Hill Carnival remains a rewarding experience".
The BASS member sound systems are predominantly made up of the Sound Systems that you will find located at the annual London Notting Hill Carnival (Europe's largest street festival) which takes place every year over 2 days, during the August Bank Holiday weekend in London.
